The use of the sketchbook are varied - notes, value studies, maps, reminders and of course, primarily to record the scene in paint. Words on the pages are at a minimum in most cases but my sketchbooks are a combination of all the above and include journal entries as well. Sketchbooks are precious to artists who will not sell such a personal document.
